Part of the artist’s Musical Heroes series, Sting Pixel Remix pays tribute to one of the defining figures of popular music while revisiting one of the earliest musical memories that shaped the artist’s cultural imagination.

Created in 2021, the work is inspired by Sting, frontman of The Police, whose legendary appearance at the Viña del Mar Festival became one of the artist’s first conscious encounters with music as a transformative cultural force. Long before digital platforms and streaming services, musical discovery often arrived through television broadcasts, magazines, radio stations, and collective moments that became embedded in personal memory.

Constructed from hundreds of hand-placed Venetian glass tesserae, the portrait employs a restrained palette of black, white, and carefully calibrated gray tones. The composition recalls the visual language of concert photography, music journalism, and the monochromatic imagery that defined much of the music press during the late twentieth century.

Like many works from this period, the mosaic operates on two levels. From close range, it reveals itself as a field of individual tesserae, textures, and tonal transitions. From a distance, the portrait resolves into a striking likeness, demonstrating the artist’s ongoing exploration of visual perception through the language of the pixel.

Beyond its tribute to Sting, the work reflects a broader fascination with the images that accompanied musical discovery. Album covers, magazine portraits, television appearances, and concert photography all become part of a collective visual memory that this mosaic seeks to preserve through a permanent material form.
