Created in 2012, Picasso Pixel Remix explores the relationship between Cubist fragmentation and contemporary digital image structures. Through the reconstruction of Pablo Picasso’s portrait using Venetian mosaic, the work establishes a dialogue between two distinct moments in the history of visual representation: the analytical decomposition of form and the pixel-based logic of digital imagery.

Constructed pixel by pixel through individually assembled tesserae, the mosaic transforms Picasso’s visual language into a material system where geometry, color and perception converge. The work highlights an unexpected continuity between Cubism’s challenge to traditional representation and the fragmented image systems that now dominate contemporary visual culture.

Positioned within the early Pixel Remix series, the piece investigates how images can be broken apart and reconstructed while retaining their symbolic identity. By translating one of the twentieth century’s most influential artistic languages into mosaic form, Picasso Pixel Remix reflects on the evolution of image-making from modernism to the digital era.
