Created in 2012, Sleeping Girl Pixel Remix revisits one of Roy Lichtenstein’s most iconic images through the material language of Venetian mosaic. Constructed pixel by pixel through individually assembled tesserae, the work transforms a symbol of Pop Art into a physical image system where emotion, reproduction and digital perception intersect.

Originally derived from the visual language of commercial printing and comic book culture, the image is translated into a handcrafted mosaic structure that bridges multiple eras of image-making. The work establishes a dialogue between Ben-Day dots, contemporary pixels and the enduring human capacity to project emotion onto simplified visual forms.

Positioned within the early Pixel Remix series, Sleeping Girl Pixel Remix explores how images retain their symbolic and emotional power while continuously migrating between technologies, materials and cultural contexts. By transforming a familiar Pop icon into a tactile mosaic surface, the work reflects on the persistence of visual memory and the evolving relationship between mass media and contemporary image culture.
