A pivotal work in the artist’s ongoing investigation into repetition, perception, and image construction. Created in 2022, Double Dalí marks the first time the artist fully incorporates image duplication into a Venetian mosaic, establishing a visual strategy that would continue to evolve in later works.

The piece pays tribute to Salvador Dalí, an artist whom the author regards as an important precursor to many ideas associated with digital image culture. Long before the emergence of personal computers, Dalí explored visual fragmentation, optical illusion, multiple readings, and image structures that anticipated concepts now closely related to pixel-based aesthetics.

Built from thousands of individually placed Venetian glass tesserae, the work transforms Dalí’s iconic portrait into a doubled composition where identity begins to dissolve through repetition. The image simultaneously appears familiar and unstable, inviting viewers to question what they are seeing and how visual information is processed.

Beyond its technical execution, Double Dalí represents the beginning of a new chapter within the artist’s practice. The work introduces a formal language based on multiplication and visual recursion that would later become central to several projects, culminating years later in large-scale public mosaic interventions.

The international reception of the series reflects its significance. One edition entered the collection of Magnetic Gallery in Bordeaux, France, another became part of a private collection in Israel, and a special large-format version (120 × 120 cm) was acquired in Chile. Today, only two examples remain available from this highly sought-after edition.

A dialogue between Surrealism, digital culture, and contemporary mosaic practice, Double Dalí stands as one of the key works of this period.
