Physical Artwork from the Historic JesusCrypto NFT Collection (2021)

A landmark work in the artist’s ongoing exploration of technology, digital culture, and contemporary image-making. Created in 2022, JesusCrypto 001 represents the physical manifestation of an artwork originally conceived for the blockchain, becoming one of the first moments in which the artist translated a native NFT creation into Venetian mosaic.

The piece originates from the historic JesusCrypto collection, launched in 2021 under the Pixelartone profile on OpenSea. Combining the iconography of Jesus Christ with the visual language pioneered by the CryptoPunks project from Larva Labs, the work establishes a dialogue between one of humanity’s oldest cultural symbols and one of the most influential aesthetic movements of the early blockchain era.

Constructed using a deliberately reduced resolution of just 24 × 24 pixels, the artwork embraces the visual limitations that defined the first generation of crypto collectibles. Rather than hiding the pixel, the mosaic celebrates it as both a technological and artistic unit, transforming digital scarcity into physical permanence through hand-placed Venetian glass tesserae.

The project occupies a unique position within the artist’s career. While previous mosaics translated photography, cinema, music, and art history into physical pixels, JesusCrypto 001 marks the moment when a work born entirely in a digital ecosystem crossed into the material world. The result is not a reproduction of an existing image, but the embodiment of a digital asset into a handcrafted object.

The original NFT collection became permanently limited due to changes in early blockchain minting systems, creating an organically scarce body of work that remains frozen in time. The physical mosaic extends that history, offering collectors the opportunity to acquire a tangible fragment of an important moment in the evolution of crypto art.
