A classical icon reconstructed through light and absence.
Part of the Latent Images series, Venus Drop Shadow explores the transformation of one of the most enduring symbols of beauty through the artist’s proprietary Drop Shadow technique. Abandoning pigment entirely, the portrait emerges solely through the interaction between paper, light, and shadow, creating an image that continuously shifts according to its environment.
Each piece is individually cut and assembled by hand, translating the logic of the pixel into a sculptural system where information is generated through depth rather than color. The work exists in a state of constant transformation: subtle under natural daylight, dramatic under directional illumination. Rather than depicting Venus, the piece investigates how images can emerge from absence itself.
Like much of the artist’s practice, Venus Drop Shadow examines the relationship between image construction, perception, and material translation. The pixel is no longer a colored square but a structural unit capable of generating form through light alone.
This work was exhibited at the historic Galerie Jour et Nuit in Paris in 2019 as part of a joint exhibition with renowned muralist Fabio Rieti. Today, examples from the edition reside in private collections in Europe.
