A tribute to one of the most enduring icons of popular culture and to a formative childhood memory. Inspired by Christopher Reeve’s portrayal of Superman, this mosaic transforms the legendary superhero into a structure of physical pixels, merging cinematic nostalgia with contemporary mosaic art.

Constructed pixel by pixel using hand-placed Venetian glass tesserae, the work recreates the image through a carefully reduced palette that recalls the visual language of early digital graphics and video games. The portrait emerges from a geometric grid where abstraction and recognition coexist, allowing the viewer to experience the image from multiple distances.

A distinctive feature of this piece is the incorporation of mirror tesserae, strategically positioned throughout the composition. These reflective elements capture ambient light and fragments of the surrounding environment, introducing movement and interaction into an otherwise static image. The result is a portrait that changes subtly throughout the day while reinforcing the futuristic imagination historically associated with Superman.

Beyond its visual qualities, the work carries a personal significance. It is inspired by the first film the artist remembers seeing in a movie theater alongside his father, transforming a deeply personal experience into a universal symbol of wonder, imagination, and heroism.
