A pivotal work in the artist’s transition toward binary abstraction and computational image structures. Created in 2025, Radial Array marks the moment when investigations previously developed through plotter drawings began to evolve into fully realized mosaic works, establishing a new parallel direction within the artist’s practice.
Constructed from 3,600 hand-placed Venetian glass tesserae measuring 1 × 1 cm, the work transforms a simple binary system into a complex perceptual experience. Through the interaction of carefully arranged linear structures, a concentric circular form appears to emerge from the center of the composition despite never being explicitly drawn. The image is generated entirely through visual frequency, contrast, and pattern interference.
The piece explores a recurring theme throughout the artist’s work: the relationship between information and perception. Rather than representing an external subject, the mosaic visualizes the mechanisms through which the human eye organizes data into recognizable forms. The result is a dynamic image that appears to pulse, expand, and shift according to viewing distance.
Radial Array also continues the artist’s ongoing investigation into software archaeology. The composition was developed using workflows derived from Macromedia Fireworks, a legacy digital tool that has become central to the artist’s research into alternative methods of image construction. Through this process, obsolete software becomes a contemporary creative instrument capable of generating new visual languages.
Occupying a unique position between Op Art, digital abstraction, and contemporary mosaic, the work demonstrates how binary structures can produce unexpected complexity through repetition and precision. It represents a significant milestone in the artist’s exploration of kinetic perception, computational aesthetics, and the translation of digital systems into permanent physical form.
