A pivotal work in the artist’s exploration of kinetic abstraction. Created shortly after relocating to the Chilean coast, Fondo Marino reflects a period of fascination with the visual rhythms of the ocean and the changing patterns of light beneath the water’s surface.

Constructed pixel by pixel using hundreds of individually placed Venetian glass tesserae, the work departs from portraiture and pop iconography to investigate movement itself as a visual language. Waves, currents, reflections, and marine textures are translated into a geometric system of fragmented forms that appears to shift and vibrate as the viewer moves.

The piece emerged during a period in which the artist began studying the structural principles of historical kinetic art. After understanding the traditional methods used to generate optical movement, he intentionally moved beyond their conventional formulas, introducing a more complex vocabulary of shapes, intersections, and directional flows. Rather than relying exclusively on repeated circular patterns, Fondo Marino expands the visual field through multiple geometric relationships that continuously reorganize themselves in the viewer’s perception.

Created as the first work in a series of kinetic mosaic experiments, the piece marks the beginning of a new chapter where digital planning, optical phenomena, and handcrafted mosaic converge into a single visual system.

Unlike many works from the Pixel Remix series, Fondo Marino is a unique artwork, conceived as a singular exploration rather than a reproducible edition.
