PSYCHO PIXEL REMIX Venetian Mosaic · 60×60 cm · 2019

US$2.400

Limited Edition • International Collections

A pivotal work in the evolution of the artist’s mosaic language. Inspired by the iconic scream from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, this piece transforms one of cinema’s most recognizable moments into a vibrant structure of color, geometry, and perception.

Constructed pixel by pixel using 3,600 individually placed glass tesserae, the work demonstrates the artist’s growing mastery of visual synthesis through material limitations. Working with a deliberately reduced palette of Venetian mosaic colors, the image is distilled into a system of approximately six recurring tones that would later become characteristic of several works from this period.

Rather than reproducing the original photograph, the mosaic reconstructs its emotional intensity. The dramatic expression emerges from an interplay of warm oranges, deep reds, contrasting blues, and areas of luminous white, creating an image that oscillates between abstraction and recognition depending on the viewing distance.

The piece also reflects a recurring theme throughout the artist’s practice: the translation of cultural icons into the language of the pixel. Here, cinema history, digital aesthetics, and the ancient tradition of Venetian mosaic converge into a single visual system.

Part of the series exhibited in Paris in 2019 during the exhibition shared with renowned muralist Fabio Rieti, the work has entered private international collections and remains one of the strongest examples of the artist’s ongoing dialogue between popular culture and material-based pixel art.
