ELVIS DROP SHADOW Hand-Cut Paper Relief · 60×60 cm (Framed) · 2017

US$1.800

Limited Edition of 5 • 3/5 Available

Elvis Drop Shadow marks the beginning of the artist’s Latent Images series, an investigation into image construction through light, shadow, and absence. Moving beyond mosaic and pixel-based systems, the work introduces a new visual language in which the image emerges without pigment, color, or printed information.

Through a meticulous process of manual die-cutting, thousands of paper elements are partially lifted from the surface, creating a field of micro-reliefs that interact with ambient light. As shadows are cast across the composition, the portrait of Elvis Presley gradually appears, suspended between presence and disappearance. The image is not printed onto the paper—it exists only as a consequence of light interacting with structure.

The work expands the artist’s long-term exploration of how images are perceived, encoded, and reconstructed. Just as digital images depend on pixels and screens to become visible, Elvis Drop Shadow relies on light and the position of the viewer. The portrait remains latent within the material, revealing itself only under specific conditions.

Part sculpture, part drawing, and part optical phenomenon, the piece transforms absence into image and emptiness into information. It marks the first chapter of a body of work that investigates the invisible architectures underlying contemporary visual culture.
