Created in 2012, Marilyn Pixel Remix reinterprets one of the most reproduced images in contemporary culture through the material language of Venetian mosaic. Inspired by Andy Warhol’s iconic portrait of Marilyn Monroe, the work examines the migration of images across media, technologies and historical periods.

By translating a symbol of mechanical reproduction into a handcrafted pixel structure, the mosaic establishes a dialogue between mass media, popular culture and material permanence. Each tessera functions as a physical unit of image construction, transforming a familiar icon into a contemporary reflection on visibility, repetition and image persistence.

Positioned within the early Pixel Remix series, the work explores how cultural symbols continue to circulate and evolve long after their original context has disappeared. Through the reconstruction of Warhol’s image system, Marilyn Pixel Remix investigates the relationship between reproduction, memory and the enduring power of visual icons within contemporary culture.
