A key work in the artist’s exploration of binary systems, kinetic perception, and computational aesthetics. Created in 2025, Binary Stream investigates how movement can emerge from static information through the precise organization of simple visual structures.
Constructed from 3,600 hand-placed Venetian glass tesserae measuring 1 × 1 cm, the work reduces visual language to its most fundamental condition: binary contrast. By eliminating color entirely, the composition focuses attention on rhythm, frequency, and the interaction between parallel streams of information.
The image originates from a system of pixel-based vector structures developed through workflows rooted in Macromedia Fireworks, a legacy software platform that has become central to the artist’s ongoing investigation into software archaeology. Rather than treating obsolete technology as a nostalgic reference, the artist reactivates these tools as contemporary instruments for image construction and visual experimentation.
What distinguishes Binary Stream is its remarkable kinetic behavior. Although entirely static, the composition generates a persistent sensation of movement. Lines appear to oscillate, drift, and flow across the surface, producing an optical experience that changes continuously as the viewer shifts position. The effect transforms a rigid mosaic grid into something that feels unexpectedly fluid and alive.
The work can be understood as a visualization of information itself. Its flowing structures evoke streams of binary data, signal transmission, and the invisible architectures that underpin contemporary digital culture.
