One of the largest and most ambitious works of this period, AHEGAO explores the relationship between desire, digital imagery, and visual perception. Created in 2022 using approximately 5,000 Venetian glass tesserae, the mosaic transforms a fleeting online image into a permanent physical object.

The title references a visual language associated with contemporary internet culture, while the work itself focuses on a broader question: how images created for immediate consumption on screens are experienced once translated into material form. Through a monumental format of 200 × 100 cm, the artist uses pixelation as a form of visual mediation. Up close, the image dissolves into abstract fields of color and geometry; from a distance, the portrait gradually emerges.

This tension between revelation and concealment has been a recurring theme throughout the artist’s practice. Here, the pixel functions simultaneously as a building block, a filter, and a conceptual device, transforming digital information into a handcrafted mosaic structure.

Originally created as a unique commission, the piece demonstrates the artist’s ongoing interest in translating contemporary visual culture into the enduring language of Venetian mosaic, creating a dialogue between ancient craftsmanship and the image economy of the digital age.
