Exhibition Piece • Artist’s Personal Collection.

Created for the Digital Expressionism exhibition, RAM OK ROM OK explores the visual memory of early computing and arcade culture. The work originates from a childhood experience familiar to an entire generation: arriving at an arcade before opening hours and watching the machines come to life. Before the games appeared, the screens briefly displayed cryptic diagnostic messages, fragmented characters and system tests that revealed the hidden language operating behind the entertainment.

Constructed from individually placed Venetian glass tesserae, the mosaic transforms one of these fleeting technological moments into a permanent physical artifact. What once existed for only a few seconds on a cathode-ray screen is translated into a handcrafted structure assembled pixel by pixel, preserving a fragment of digital history through one of humanity’s oldest image-making techniques.

The composition occupies a unique position within the artist’s practice. Rather than representing a recognizable cultural icon, it focuses on the architecture of digital memory itself. Letters, symbols, color blocks and fragments of code become visual archaeology, revealing the underlying systems that shaped an entire generation’s relationship with technology.

RAM OK ROM OK reflects on the transition from analog childhood to digital culture. It captures the moment when machines ceased being tools and began becoming environments, languages and extensions of everyday life. Through mosaic, the ephemeral logic of electronic systems acquires permanence, materiality and historical presence.
