Unique work.

Created in 2014, Kali Yuga forms part of PixelArt’s investigation into large-scale image systems and the transformation of digital imagery into architectural presence. Constructed through approximately 10,000 individually placed Venetian tesserae, the work was developed using the artist’s custom color matrix methodology, allowing the image to be translated into a precise physical structure assembled pixel by pixel.

The portrait presents a figure suspended between attraction and confrontation. Simultaneously seductive and defiant, the image explores the tension between beauty, desire and psychological intensity. Its title references the concept of Kali Yuga, the age of conflict, illusion and moral disorientation described in Hindu cosmology, introducing a symbolic layer that extends beyond the portrait itself.

Rather than depicting an individual, the work operates as an archetypal presence. The luminous surface draws the viewer inward while suggesting the coexistence of fascination and instability beneath appearances. Through this duality, Kali Yuga reflects on contemporary image culture and the seductive mechanisms through which images exert influence and emotional power.

Positioned within the artist’s monumental mosaic practice, the work demonstrates the convergence of digital image systems, handcrafted construction and symbolic invocation. Installed in the urban environment, the portrait transforms from a photographic source into a permanent visual presence embedded within the architectural landscape.
