A key work within the artist’s ongoing exploration of repetition, perception, and contemporary image construction. Created in 2023, Double Dalí 2 revisits one of the most influential figures in twentieth-century art through a visual strategy that has become increasingly central to the artist’s practice: duplication as a tool for transformation.

Using the unmistakable face of Salvador Dalí as its point of departure, the work creates a new image through mirrored repetition. The result is both familiar and unsettling, preserving the surrealist’s iconic features while generating a new visual structure that oscillates between portraiture, abstraction, and optical illusion.

For the artist, Dalí represents more than a historical reference. He stands as one of the earliest creators to explore how images could be fragmented, reconstructed, and perceived differently according to distance and scale. Many of the perceptual experiments developed by the surrealist anticipate questions that would later become fundamental to digital image culture and pixel-based representation.

Constructed from hundreds of Venetian glass tesserae, the mosaic employs the artist’s established chromatic language of luminous whites, fiery ambers, intense oranges, and deep blues. This distinctive palette transforms Dalí’s gaze into an energetic visual field that appears to shift and vibrate as the viewer moves through space.

At close range, the image dissolves into individual units of color and material. From a distance, the duplicated portrait emerges with remarkable clarity, reinforcing one of the artist’s recurring themes: the constant negotiation between information and perception, fragmentation and unity.

While the original artwork measures 60 × 60 cm, the composition is also available as a limited large-format edition of five commissioned mosaics measuring 120 × 120 cm. At this scale, the duplicated image becomes immersive, allowing viewers to experience the full visual power of the work.

Double Dalí 2 stands as an important chapter in the artist’s broader investigation into repetition as a creative language, connecting surrealist experimentation, digital aesthetics, and the enduring materiality of Venetian mosaic.
