Unique Piece

Created in 2025, Be Water pays tribute to one of the most influential cultural figures of the twentieth century: Bruce Lee. Based on an iconic image from Enter the Dragon, the work explores not only the visual legacy of the martial arts legend but also the philosophical principles that continue to inspire generations around the world.

Constructed from 3,600 hand-placed Venetian glass tesserae measuring 1 × 1 cm each, the mosaic transforms a cinematic image into a physical pixel structure. Through this meticulous process, the artist revisits Bruce Lee’s enduring message of adaptability, transformation, and fluidity, translating it into a medium traditionally associated with permanence and stability.

This apparent contradiction lies at the heart of the work. Mosaic is one of humanity’s oldest and most durable image-making techniques, while Bruce Lee’s philosophy advocates constant movement and the absence of fixed form. By using thousands of rigid glass elements to evoke the idea of fluidity, the artist creates a compelling dialogue between permanence and change.

Part of the artist’s ongoing exploration of cultural icons, Be Water reflects a curatorial approach that treats popular imagery as a form of contemporary mythology. Rather than simply reproducing a famous portrait, the work investigates how collective memory is constructed, transmitted, and preserved through evolving technological systems.

The composition oscillates between abstraction and representation. At close range, the viewer encounters an intricate field of individual tesserae. From a distance, Bruce Lee emerges with remarkable clarity, demonstrating the same perceptual dynamics that define much of the artist’s mosaic practice.

As a unique piece, Be Water occupies a significant place within the artist’s cinematic series, bringing together philosophy, film history, pixelation, and traditional craftsmanship in a single contemporary artwork.
