One of the earliest works in the Pixel Remix series, Mona Pixel Remix explores the transformation of one of the most reproduced images in human history into a contemporary system of handcrafted pixels. Created in 2012, the work investigates how cultural icons migrate across centuries, technologies and visual languages while retaining their symbolic power.

Constructed tessera by tessera through Venetian mosaic, the portrait translates Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa into a physical image structure where digital logic and historical representation converge. Rather than reproducing the original painting, the work examines the mechanisms through which images persist, circulate and continuously reactivate themselves within contemporary visual culture.

As one of the first large-scale mosaic reinterpretations developed by the artist, Mona Pixel Remix established many of the conceptual foundations that would later define the broader practice: image migration, cultural appropriation, pixel-based reconstruction and the material persistence of digital imagery.
