Expanding Pixel-Based Research Through Digital Fabrication

Presented as the inaugural solo exhibition of Galería Veta E.C. in Santiago, the exhibition marked a significant evolution in PixelArt’s research by introducing, for the first time, works produced through digitally plotted cutting systems alongside handcrafted mosaic pieces.

Rather than replacing manual processes, the incorporation of plotter technology expanded the artist’s investigation into how images can be constructed through multiple systems operating simultaneously. Mosaic, vector drawing, digital fabrication and physical assembly became interconnected stages within a single research methodology, reinforcing the ongoing dialogue between technology and materiality.

The exhibition also introduced AHEGAO, a work that would become one of the earliest pieces within the Autocensorship Systems series. Built around the isolated expression of a face rather than explicit representation, the work explored how suggestion, censorship and fragmented perception can generate psychological tension through minimal visual information. The pixel no longer functioned solely as a unit of construction but also as a mechanism of concealment, mediation and unstable visibility.

Viewed retrospectively, the exhibition represents the transition toward the mature phase of PixelArt’s practice, where handcrafted techniques, digital tools and conceptual systems converge into a unified investigation examining how technology transforms the ways images are produced, perceived and materially reconstructed.

If Expresionismo Digital introduced abstraction and Retrospectiva revealed the coexistence of multiple research lines, the exhibition at Galería Veta E.C. marked the emergence of a new production methodology. From this point onward, manual craftsmanship and digital fabrication no longer operate as separate techniques but as complementary systems within a broader investigation into perception, image construction and post-digital materiality.
